My grandmother was a dorm parent at a residential school in Norway house. This is a piece of my family history that I’m ashamed of, but it’s some thing I am working towards reconciliation about. My biggest action step towards reconciliation is making sure I teach my children what happened, exposing them to as much beautiful indigenous culture as I can, And teaching them how to respect the beliefs and customs of other people as much as they respect their own. Here was our orange shirt day experience.

Sidenote. When my children use the word “crazy“, they mean this in a fantastic and cool way. Similar to how the word “sick“ was slang for really cool a while back. Please do not think when they say the dancing was totally crazy, that they mean anything negative. They were admiring it, and thought it was really neat.
