An Umbrian-Sabellic people born from the fusion of different elements, including the mysterious Liburnian people of the eastern shore of the Adriatic, the Picenians for a long time played a fundamental role in the development of the cultures of Central Italy, making themselves the intermediary between the Balkan and Aegean world for Italics and Etruscans, at the same time spreading valuable goods and the use of new weapons, such as the Xiphos and the Kopis.

Among the first allies that Rome finds beyond the borders of Latium, the Picenians will be the same ones to start the Social War against the Romans with the massacre of Asculum, passionately claiming the right to Roman citizenship.
