The history of these peoples, the most northerly among the Italics, speaks of a glorious but largely unknown past, which had seen the Umbrians extend their culture from central-eastern Italy to the Po Valley.

Sons of the Sabellic culture, but at the same time linked to an unknown non-Indo-European population of Central Italy, as evidenced by their name, the Umbrians were deeply linked to the Etruscan world, from which they assimilated various traits, above all art and culture.
