In this video I am responding to specific questions I received about how to write an academic book review, how to do it in a way that is still authentic and useful, yet does not offend the author and does not cause problems for the reviewer in the long term. Because it is true that if the reviewer is an established scholar, going very harsh on his book is not a good strategy. So my advice is to be fair and to be civil, not to go out of your way to find every problem, but to focus on the important things and then talk about those in a constructive way. And you should try to publish your review in a top journal, because reviews are not peer reviewed so you can get into almost any journal.
