Fear of public speaking is typically mentioned as one of the main sources of anxiety in our age. Yet the ability to speak in public is also one of the main predictors of a person's professional success, closely following her ability to write well. In the academic world, this is even more important to be able to speak in front of people, as our lives revolve around teaching, presenting at conferences and giving public talks. Your willingness and skill to do this has a direct impact on how well you perform, or in what light are you assessed as an academic. In this video, I give six points on dealing with public speaking anxiety, which have worked for me. None of them are going to turn you into a celebrated speaker overnight, but they might help you to start moving in the right direction. Or maybe they will inspire you to come with other methods that work for you.
