This is typically our "go to" contingency anchor whether doing vertical movement or in training, due to its simplicity and efficiency. In the end, easy to operate, easy to safety check, easy to manipulate friction on the fly. The main technique we have changed over the years is the tie off method, we used to use the Mule techniques (Munter-Mule), but now use the monster munter tie-off. So why...really just preference, and most believe it to be easier to do on smaller diameter ropes, with gloves, low-light situations, with NVG, and you have some built in added friction capabilities as you are untying.
