This exercise is a great way to re-centre yourself and bring you back to your body (and the present moment) when things are a little bit anxious and "UP." The act of conscious touch and gently squeezing your upper body can be very containing, and provide a sense of "here I am!"

It's also a great exercise to do when you just need a break: it'll help you notice your breath, and the present moment. Enjoy!

QUICK HISTORY: I originally made this video for my online students, but it's SO potent and powerful that I had to share it with you. It's inspired by the work I've done with Peter Levine, the founder of the body work somatic healing therapy, Somatic Experiencing. Peter writes about this powerful exercise in his book, In An Unspoken Voice.
