This is a very brief introduction to Chinese colophons from Dunhuang, explaining where to find them and why they are useful. The first part of the video is for those researchers who do not read Chinese, yet would need to read them for their own research. The second part, for those who can read Chinese, introduces Ikeda On's collection of Chinese colophons, which cover most of those found in Dunhuang. Collectively, the colophons give us insights into the problems people struggled with in their daily lives hundreds of years ago, the things they worried about, the dreams they hoped to accomplish, and the loved ones they wished to help.
