Fitzgerald used a punishing ground game to execute first half drives of 70, 77 and 71 yards as the Purple Hurricane captured their first state championship since 1948. Fitzgerald avenged a 15-8 regular season loss to Thomasville. Denorris Goodwin rushed for 175 yards and two touchdowns and Georgia commit E.J. Lightsey also scored as the Purple Hurricane ended a 73-year championship drought.
