Benedictine scored on it’s first five possessions to build a 35-7 lead in the second quarter and held on to beat Fitzgerald 49-26 in the 2-A state championship game. The 15-0 season was the first perfect record for the Cadets in a century of football and gave them their second state title in three years. Fitzgerald rallied to close the gap to 35-26, but two late Cadet scores iced the victory.
