On a damp, foggy night, Langston Hughes missed a field goal on the game’s final play as Buford coach Bryant Appling became the first coach in Georgia High School Football history to win state titles in his first three seasons. The Wolves didn’t lead until Stanford quarterback commit Ashton Daniels threw a 34-yard TD pass to Tobi Olawole with 2:55 remaining in the game. Buford had 21 scholarship players on its roster, including Alabama wide receiver commits Isaiah Bond and Jake Pope. Georgia Tech commit Antonio Martin rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns for Langston Hughes. It is Buford’s 14th state title, 13th since 2001.
