What killed Barbarian's atmosphere?
As quite a polarising film, 2022's "Barbarian" has received it's share of negative feedback, with many attributing it's shortcomings to misplaced humour, plot holes and nonsensical plot. As someone who really enjoyed the film, this gene has a different view on things.
Despite being able to maintain quite a stable and claustrophobic atmosphere for much of its runtime, 'Barbarian,' like so many other horror flicks, struggles to keep this up throughout the final act. And what killed it but just one scene, and a series of questionable decisions by the filmmakers, all within the span of three minutes. Decisions which rumbled the very foundation of the film, and led to the collapse of its theretofore carefully cultivated atmosphere.
