Most of us have heard of screenlife, even if we haven't heard the specific term. It's the "computer-screen" style of filmmaking which tells a story from the point of view of a computer. It's variously described as a film genre, film technique or just a short-lived gimmick that will die out as quick as 4D Aroma-Scope scratch n' sniff cards. Most of us probably know the technique from the 2014 film, "Unfriended." However, the technique was first introduced over a decade earlier, and the evolution of the technique in the decade since "Unfriended," especially in the turbulent early 2020s, makes defining screenlife more difficult than ever.

This flourishing new style of filmmaking may have a lot more potential than general audiences give it credit for - although a constant comparison to other genres and filmmaking methods, as well as unlucky distribution decisions, mean that this potential may never be unlocked.
