Growing up in the district, racing and the Warrnambool May Carnival have always been front and centre for Marg Lucas.

Lucas's mother was a great role model winning a race as a trainer in the 1950s at 100/1, providing a windfall to purchase a farm. Following in her footsteps Lucas emulated her mother in the training ranks in also producing a 100/1 winner at the famous May Carnival.

In a life dedicated to racing Lucas has achieved great success as a hobby trainer, owner and administrator as a committee member and Chair of the Warrnambool Racing Club.

Though Lucas shies away from the limelight, her peers have acknowledged her contribution via the 2006 Wakeful Lady in Racing Award and the 2020/2021 Tony Shanahan Award for services to country racing.
