Bill Armstrong came from a farming background and he remained quite close to his roots throughout his incredible life.

Armstrong served with distinction during the Second World War, (receiving the Military Cross for gallantry in the South-West Pacific Area), he was elected to the House of Representatives in the Federal seat of Riverina and was the official starter for the Victoria Racing Club for 20 years.

A little known fact from his military service is between 1943 and 1944 he organised race meetings in Soputa, New Guinea as a way to boost morale of the soldiers in and under his care. An event that resonated for decades to come with the men who served with him.

Lest We Forget.
