History on Grenada’s Independence:

The recorded history of the Caribbean island of Grenada begins in the early 17th century. First settled by indigenous peoples, by the time of European contact it was inhabited by the Caribs. British colonists killed most of the Caribs on the island and established plantations on the island, eventually importing African slaves to work on the sugar plantations.
Over the three centuries there were several leaders and colonizers on the island.
In the 18th century Great Britain gained control over the island .
On February 7th 1974 Under the leadership on Sir. Eric Matthew Gairy, Grenada gained its independence. Over the objections of the opposition, and an eventual boycott of the ongoing talks with Britain by the opponents, Mr. Gairy persevered and Grenada was granted independence.
