Indonesia is in the meeting zone of three major tectonic plates in the world, namely the Indo-Australian plate, the Eurasian plate and the Pacific plate. The confluence zone is known as the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area along the Pacific Ocean that experiences frequent earthquakes and volcanic activity. Therefore, Indonesia frequently experiences earthquakes, and is even one of the countries most frequently affected by earthquakes in the world.
