Installing laminate in a bathroom seemed risky at the time, and we paid the price. So as part of the repair process we waterproofed the floor and installed hexagon porcelain tile. It turned out great!

To avoid a repeat of this, I ripped out the section of most trafficked floorspace from the bathroom, installed plenty of blocking to minimize flex/deflection in the floor, replaced that section with a new piece of 5/8 OSB, mortared down an uncoupling membrane, and finally installed tile.

All in all, it was 2+ days effort. Not bad, and we're very happy with the result.
