This rotten tile floor has to be replaced. We installed new laminate floors for this homeowner a couple years ago. At that time we told the homeowner that the stool was leaking really bad and needed to be fixed. He agreed but didn’t have the means at that time.

When we installed the laminate the tile around the stool was just cracked and a little loose. As you can see in the video the floor has gotten much worse. Now the stool is actually sinking and the floor around it is really soft.

The first thing we are going to do is remove the toilet, door and base trim. Once those things are out of the way we are going to hang plastic over the vanity to keep the dust off of it.

After all the job prep is done we will remove the tile and underlayment. We will also remove the subfloor and get down to the floor joists. We also want to look at the toilet drain and figure out what’s causing it to leak. Usually it’s a poorly installed wax ring and sometimes it’s more than that.

In the case of this job the stool flange was improperly installed and that was the cause of the leak. In order to fix the problem we cut out a section of pipe and replaced it with PVC.

We are a bathroom remodeler servicing the Columbia Missouri area. If you are needing your bathroom updated give us a call, we would love to interview for your project. Our tile installations include a lifetime manufacturer warranty.
