You never know what you will find, if you have no particular destination. Exploring some of the less popular areas of the Western plains, I stumbled upon this old wash basin (aka water basin, wash tub, etc.). I originally thought it would be perfect for a table lamp project that has been on the to-do list for a long time. After beating on this for a while, and seeing it come to shape, I changed my mind.

This was a simple project, but the risk of bodily injury was high due to the insane number of sharp, jagged, and rusty edges. I applied my auto body repair skills in an attempt to reshape it. I was going for close, not perfect. I didn’t want to lose the character it had earned over the years. After regaining its shape, I washed it off and applied a gloss coat to bring out the colors of the metal.

The electrical portion of this is very straight-forward. After wiring the bulb fixtures, it really is no different than buying and installing any light fixture from a store. If you’re uncomfortable with wiring, get someone to help.

My mounting options necessitated the wood base plate. The electrical box in the ceiling had separated from the trusses and was kind of free floating.
Working with tools, and electricity can be dangerous. Remember to be safe and pay attention. I’m not there to hold your hand, so you are on your own.
