Last project of 2017. I made this for a co-worker. In the end, I struggled to let it go.
Old skis are pretty common around here and are used in a number of clever ways, from fencing to chairs. I grabbed a pile of skis with the intention of creating my own projects. For this project, I only need one ski, well, a portion of one ski.
I begin by laying out the final design and finding scrap metal for the base. The ski is cut using a mixed material saw and blade. After drilling out the holes for the tea lights with a 1 3/4" hole saw, I used a router bit with a guide template to bring the final diameter to about 1 7/8". The base is simple. I weld some legs to a piece of flat stock and round off the ends. To hold the base to the ski, I use the original bolts and wing nuts from the binding tensioner.
I am very happy with the way this turned out and the recipient was as well.
Thanks for watching. Remember: tools can be extremely dangerous so be smart, use caution, and be safe.
