[자우림이 전하는 곡 배경]
앨범의 흐름에 훌륭한 한 조각을 만들 수 있도록 오르페우스와 에우리디케를 소재로 했습니다.
고대 그리스 세계의 최고 아이돌 리라 플레이어 오르페우스는 많은 팬들을 물리치고 아름다운 님프 에우리디케와 결혼합니다. 그러나 영원한 사랑을 맹세한 에우리디케가 갑작스런 죽음을 맞고 오르페우스는 그녀를 되찾기 위해 지하 세계 망자의 나라로 떠나게 됩니다. 애절하게 아내를 찾으며 노래하며 흐느끼는 오르페우스를 측은하게 여긴 저승의 여왕 페르세포네는 함께 지상으로 돌아가도 좋다고 허락합니다.

그리고 저승의 왕 하데스는 한 가지 조건을 겁니다. 지상 세계에 도착할 때까지 뒤따라가는 에우리디케를 돌아봐서는 안 된다는 조건을요. 인간 오르페우스에게는 너무 어려운 조건이었습니다. 지상의 빛이 보일 무렵 그는 아내가 정말 따라오고 있는지 너무나 궁금해서 살짝 뒤를 돌아보았고 에우리디케는 다시 죽음으로 빨려 들어갑니다.

혼자서 지상에 돌아온 오르페우스는 깊은 슬픔에 빠져 팬들에게 음악을 들려주지 않게 되고 분노한 그루피들에게 찢겨 죽음을 맞습니다. 두 사람은 명계에서 다시 만났겠지요. 그렇게 생각하면 비극이 아닐 수도 있는 이야기네요.

하이든과 오펜바흐, 글룩에 의해 오페라로 만들어지기도 한 이야기입니다.
죽음을 관통하고도 끊어지지 않은 사랑이야기.
가사 작업을 할 때 옛날 현인들과 천재들은 오르페우스의 입을 빌어 무슨 이야기를 했을까 열심히 뒤져보았지만 결국은 '오 내 사랑 에우리디케, 당신 없이 어떻게 살아가리오,' 였습니다.

3,000년 전 사람들에게나 수 백 년 전 사람들에게나 사랑하는 동안의 사랑은 똑같은 존재였나 봅니다.

뒤를 돌아보아선 안된다는 트릭에 어제는 과거일 뿐이라고 적고 싶었습니다.
듣는 사람마다 여러 가지 생각을 할 수 있을 것 같습니다.

To make it into a track that fit seamlessly with the flow of the album, I used Orpheus and Eurydice as its subject.

A top-tier idol of the ancient Greek world, the lyre player Orpheus rejected fan after fan to marry the beautiful nymph Eurydice. However, after the unexpected death of Eurydice who had sworn eternal love to him, Orpheus set out to the underworld to bring her back. This was made possible by Persephone, the queen of the underworld, who granted permission after feeling pity for the mournful Orpheus who sang and wept as he continued to search for his wife. Hades, the god of the underworld, then laid down a condition for it to happen: Eurydice could follow him back to the surface, but Orpheus must not look back at her along the way until they arrived.

For the human Orpheus, this condition was too much to bear. Once he began to see the light of the overworld again, he couldn’t help but wonder whether his wife truly was following in his footsteps. He risked a glimpse behind; and when he did so, Eurydice was sucked back to the dwelling place of the dead. Upon his return to the surface alone, Orpheus was deeply saddened, no longer played his music for his fans, and died after being torn apart by angry groupies.

The two must have met again in the underworld. And if this was the case, then this story might not be a tragedy in the end. Their story was also made into operas by Haydn, Offenbach and Gluck: a love story that never ends, even through death. While working on the lyrics I searched far and wide to see how the sages and geniuses of old borrowed the words of Orpheus in their own stories, but in the end it was summed up as the sentiment: “Oh my love Eurydice, how can I live without you?” It seems that the love that one feels when one is in love was the same to people 3000 years ago as it was to those a few centuries ago.

To this I thought I would add a part about ‘yesterday was only the past’ in reference to the trap of not being able to look back.

I suppose everyone who listens will have their own thoughts on it too.
