[자우림이 전하는 곡 배경]
FADE AWAY는 자우림 11집의 첫 단추입니다.

고백하자면 팬데믹이 시작되던 무렵 저는 오래된 번아웃으로 공기에서 먼지 맛을 느꼈고 아프지 않은 곳이 없었습니다.

아무 것도 사실은 즐겁게 느껴지지 않았고 아침에 눈을 뜨면 절망감에 압도되곤 했습니다.

그리고 본격적인 팬데믹이 전개되었고 세계는 절망과 불안에 빠졌습니다.

원래 자우림 11집은 작년 2020년 11월에 공개될 예정이었습니다.

그러나 FADE AWAY 로 시작해 엮어 나가기 시작한 어두운 곡들을 현실적인 절망과 불안에 빠져 있는 세상에 내 놓는 것은 도덕적으로 옳지 않은 결정이라고 생각됐습니다.

(그래서 대신 따뜻한 노래들을 새로 만들어서 2020년 6월에 HOLA! EP를 발표했었지요. )

원래 가사의 방향은 지금과 방향이 달랐었습니다.

‘영원히 사랑할 거라고 말해줘, 어떤 외로움들은 거짓으로만 위로되니까'

라고 시작했었거든요.

곡을 만들 때 이 이야기가 나만 이해하는 혼잣말은 아닐까 종종 의심합니다.
결국 긴 고민 끝에 지금의 이야기로 노래의 끝을 맺었습니다.

와 연결 되어 있습니다.

가사 중 ‘ Like tears in rain ’ 은 Blade runner 의 처연한 대사에서 가져왔습니다.

덧붙여 2020년 한 해 동안은 곡들을 만들 때 새 앨범의 제목은 Tears in rain 이라고 생각하고 작업했습니다.

FADE AWAY is the song that starts off Jaurim’s 11th album.

I have a confession to make about this song: around when the COVID-19 pandemic was just beginning, I had been suffering from a long period of burnout. My mouth tasted of dust and every part of my body ached. All enjoyment was lost, and the moment I opened my eyes in the morning I felt overwhelmed by despair.

And then the true pandemic began, and the world plunged into despair and anxiety.

Jaurim’s 11th album was originally meant to be released last year in November 2020 instead of 2021. But the idea of taking these dark songs that are woven together and set off with FADE AWAY and releasing them to a world in a state of real despair and anxiety felt morally questionable to us.

(Which is why we decided instead to put together some new songs with warmth instead for the HOLA! EP that we released in June 2020.)

The lyrics for this song originally had a different direction from the one they have now.

Here’s how they began: “Tell me that you love me forever; because there are some kinds of loneliness that can only be comforted by lies.”

I started to doubt this part while making the song, wondering if it wasn’t just a phrasing that only made sense to me. And after agonizing over this for quite some time, I eventually decided to change it to end with the current story it tells.

The ‘Like tears in rain’ part of the lyrics comes from the haunting monologue of the same name from the movie Blade Runner.

As an aside, ‘Tears in Rain’ was the title that I had had in mind for the album when putting these songs together in 2020.
