REMASTERED and COLORIZED (1966 Shirley Bassey Show Of The Week)

Shirley Bassey performed an hour TV Special in 1966 on the 'Show Of The Week', called 'The Sound of Shirley Bassey' on 22 Feb 1966. This show was initially broadcasted on BBC2. Shirley performs many of the songs she released on her 1965 live album titled, 'Shirley Bassey at the Pigalle', and her follow-up 1965 studio album titled, 'Shirley Stops the Shows'. In the USA the album was titled, 'Shirley Means Bassey'. This song is titled, 'The Lady Is A Tramp' and the songwriters are Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart.

ABOUT This Song:
"The Lady Is a Tramp" is a show tune from the 1937 Rodgers and Hart musical Babes in Arms, in which it was introduced by former child star Mitzi Green. This song is a spoof of New York high society and its strict etiquette (the first line of the verse is "I get too hungry for dinner at eight...") and phony social pretensions. It has become a popular music standard. The song appears in the film version of Babes in Arms (1939) as an instrumental version only.

LYRICS:
I've wined and dined on mulligan stew
On "Live at Talk of the Town" inserted: I have, I have
And never wished for turkey
I've hitched and hiked and drifted to
From Maine to Alberquque
Alas I missed the beaux arts ball
And what is twice as sad
I was never at my own party
Where I honoured Bernard Ball
His social circles move to fast for me
My hobohemia is the place to be
I get too hungry for dinner at eight
I love the theatre but never come late
I never bother with people I hate
That's why this lady is a tramp
I don't like crap games with barons and earls
Won't go to Harlem in ermine and pearls
Won't dish the dirt with the rest of those girls
That's why this lady is a tramp
I like the free fresh wind in my hair
Life without care
I'm broke... that's oke
Hate California, it's cold and it's damp
That's why this lady is a tramp
I like the free fresh wind in my hair
Life without care
I'm broke... that's oke
Hate California, it's cold and it's damp
That's why this lady is a tramp
And I love it
Yes, I'm a tramp, and I love it
And I wish that you will come in my way yeah
I wish that you will come in my way yeah
I wish that you will come in my way
Yes, I'm a lady
But a tramp
