Fans and front offices of the NFL put so much emphasis on a players 40 time when evaluating where they will be taken in the draft, but I'm here to tell you today that a players 40 time has almost nothing to do with how they will perform on Sundays.

John Ross ran a 4.22, but only has 62 catches in his career since 2017. Jerry Rice on the other hand ran a 4.71 and owns every single receiving record in NFL history.

The fact is that, of course speed is important, but it's only important within the white lines of a football field.

Football is not a track event, but NFL prospects train for months to treat the 40 dash like it is a track event.

Guys like Jarvis Landry who ran a 4.77 drop to the second round even though their NCAA highlight tapes show an amazing ability in all aspects of their game.

Speed, size, and strength are important in the game of football, but when it comes to testing those abilities at the NFL combine, you can wind up with a lot of false positives.

Do you think Xavier Worthy will be thrust into the first round because of his record breaking 40 yard dash time?
