Can hip problems cause pain in the knees? Many of the muscles of the hip are also muscles that directly affect the knee joint. In the medical world, there's often a strong bias to look only at the site where you feel pain for an explanation of problems. In that line of thinking, hip pain only comes from problems at the hip joint, and knee pain only comes from problems at the knee joint.

When looked at anatomically, there are many direct muscular connections between the hip and knee areas. Muscles that span both joints can easily and obviously affect the comfort levels at both joints. When looking at the muscular anatomy, it becomes easy to see how hip problems can create knee pain/problems. Knee problems can also easily create hip issues as well!
