The 11-12 grades at VIS Experimental High School participated in Green Thumb during this school year. Green Thumb is a PBL project which combines engineering and environmental science, aiming to achieve SDG goals including zero hunger, industry innovation and infrastructure, sustainable cities and communities, and life on land. At the beginning of the PBL semester, students were introduced to hydroponics and the science behind growing plants. They also did research on different methods of developing sustainable hydroponic systems. In this project, students were separated into four groups including engineering, gardening, media, and exhibition teams.

今年VIS 11、12年級生參與了Green Thumb這個PBL課程。Green Thumb結合了環境工程和環境科學去實現可持續發展目標,包括零飢餓、工業創新和基礎設施、可持續城市和社區,以及陸地上的生命。在學期初,學生們學到了水培技術和種植植物背後的科學。他們還對開發可持續水培系統的不同方法進行了研究。在這個項目中,學生們被分成了四個小組,包括工程組、園藝組、媒體組和展覽組。

PBL is a learning method that offers students knowledges that are not on textbooks. It is exceptionally different than traditional education. Students are not only gaining knowledge from textbooks but also experiencing things on their own. PBL allows students to learn and practice essential collaboration and communication skills. Students are able to cooperate with many people with different personalities.

PBL作為一種可以為學生提供教科書上沒有的知識的學習方法與傳統教育截然不同。學生不僅能從課本中獲取知識,也能夠親身體驗事物。 PBL 讓學生學習和練習基本的協作和溝通技巧。學生能夠與許多不同性格的人合作。
