This is Bill Mak's interview with me, which we did at the ISF Academy in Cyberport, Hong Kong on the occasion of a Dunhuang exhibition at the Academy. We talk about how I got into Dunhuang studies, what I was originally studying, why I changed my research field, and what the field was back then. We also talk about my moving on to Cambridge and how much planning went (or didn't go) into choosing what to do research on. Finally, we discuss the multilingual and multicultural aspect of Dunhuang and how it symbolizes the situation in the modern world. Hong Kong in this respect is especially pertinent in being such an in international places.
