For this new video, a look back at the career of an icon of Panamanian sport, an immense Central American legend of the round ball who was mowed down in full ascent on May 6, 1993: it is Rommel Fernandez.
An effective goalscorer in aerial play - 16 helmet goals in 1988-89 including an incredible quadruple on the last day of the Liga 2 championship - who left an indelible mark in Panama, Tenerife and Albacete. A pioneer in the expatriation of Panamanian players to Europe, he was for a time considered one of the best forwards in La Liga and in the Hispano-American world, as evidenced by his EFE trophy for best Hispano-American player in 1991, a trophy won by players of the caliber of Messi, R9, CR7 or even Luis Suarez.
