So our next destination was Hunder after Khardung La. The road to hunder was full of twists & turns and beautiful landscape.

Beautiful but remote, Hunder village sits like an oasis in the middle of cold desert in Nubra valley of Ladakh. Seven km from Diskit which is known for its Buddhist monastery, Nubra has acquired fame for its sand dunes, the cold desert that surrounds it, Bactrian camels and its breath-taking natural beauty.

Situated close the Siachen glacier and Pakistan border in Ladakh in north India. Hunder is approximately 160 km from Leh and one has to cross Khardung La, one of the world’s highest motorable pass to reach the remote village.

The high altitude desert, with rolling expanse of sand dunes and barren landscape is the USP of Hunder village.

Bactrian camels are another attraction. Native to the steppes of central Asia, the Bactrian camel has two humps, in contrast to the single-humped camels found in Rajasthan and other parts of India. The Bactrian camels were the main mode of transport when Ladakh was an important stopover on the ancient trade routes with Central Asia.

Joyrides on the Bactrian camel through the sand dunes is a must do for the tourists who visit Hunder.

Hunder is also the place where you can find forests of sea-buckthorn, a medicinal plant rich in bio-molecules, vitamins and nutritive properties and popularly known as ‘Leh Berry’.

Though the area surrounding Hunder is arid and desolate, the village, however, is a vast expanse of green and abounds with cultivable land. Horticulture products, including, apricots, walnuts, almonds, apples and various fruits and flowers, from Nubra are much sought after.

Because of its remote location, tourist facilities are limited in Hunder. However, the village is popular with campers. The tented accommodations maintained by private operators are not low in comforts.

Hunder is also famous for its Buddhist monastery known as Hundur gompa situated close to the Diskit monastery. It is one of the oldest monasteries of Nubra valley.

Festival of Hundur is a chance to see the ancient culture of Hunder people. It is celebrated jointly with Diskit monastery every year. Display of Cham dance and traditional arts and sports are the highpoint of the festival.

Guest houses and private hotels with basic facilities are available in Hunder village. Villagers also provide homestay for nominal rent which includes food.
There are a handful of restaurants that serve basic meals.
During summer that is in the months from June to August which is the best time to visit Hundur.

तो हमारी अगली मंजिल खारदुंग ला के बाद हुंदर थी। हुंडर की सड़क मोड़ और मोड़ और सुंदर परिदृश्य से भरी थी।
खूबसूरत लेकिन सुदूर, हुंदर गांव लद्दाख की नुब्रा घाटी में ठंडे रेगिस्तान के बीच में नखलिस्तान की तरह बसा है। दिस्कित से सात किमी दूर है। नुब्रा ने अपने रेत के टीलों, इसके चारों ओर ठंडे रेगिस्तान, बैक्ट्रियन ऊंटों और इसकी सांस लेने वाली प्राकृतिक सुंदरता के लिए प्रसिद्धि प्राप्त की है।
हुंदर लेह से लगभग 160 किमी दूर है और सुदूर गांव तक पहुंचने के लिए खारदुंग ला को पार करना पड़ता है, जो दुनिया के सबसे ऊंचे मोटरेबल पास में से एक है।
रेत के टीलों के रोलिंग विस्तार और बंजर परिदृश्य के साथ उच्च ऊंचाई वाला रेगिस्तान हुंदर गांव की यूएसपी है।
बैक्ट्रियन ऊंट एक और आकर्षण हैं। राजस्थान और भारत के अन्य भागों में पाए जाने वाले एकल-कूबड़ वाले ऊंटों के विपरीत, मध्य एशिया के मैदानों के मूल निवासी, बैक्ट्रियन ऊंट के दो कूबड़ होते हैं। बैक्ट्रियन ऊंट परिवहन का मुख्य साधन थे जब लद्दाख मध्य एशिया के साथ प्राचीन व्यापार मार्गों पर एक महत्वपूर्ण पड़ाव था।

हालांकि, हुंदर के आस-पास का क्षेत्र शुष्क और उजाड़ है, हालांकि, गांव हरे रंग का एक विशाल विस्तार है और खेती योग्य भूमि से भरपूर है। नुब्रा के खुबानी, अखरोट, बादाम, सेब और विभिन्न फलों और फूलों सहित बागवानी उत्पादों की बहुत मांग है।

गर्मियों के दौरान जो जून से अगस्त के महीनों में होता है जो हुंडुर घूमने का सबसे अच्छा समय है।
