Forest Raised Pigs - Pig Fencing

Today we are moving pigs into a new pig paddock as part of our forest raised pork program. These pigs are raised on pasture and raised in the woods to ensure they live a more natural life where they can root around for a substantial part of their diet.

These animals will have about 1 acre to roam and forage on and will move to a new paddock in a few weeks. Practicing rotational grazing like this gives the land a time to heal and rest.

Pastured Pig Workshop -

Are you interested in getting started with pastured pigs? Have you just started with pigs and would like to learn more about how to effectively manage and raise your animals? If so, then this workshop is for you.

Spend the day at Sheraton Park Farms and expand your knowledge of pasture pigs. We’ll talk about piglet selection, artificial insemination, use of boars on your farm, feed, fence, watering systems, cut sheets and all things in between.

Special Guest Instructor!

Troy McClung lives in central/southern West Virginia with his wife, Kelly, and their two boys (ages 20 and 16). In 2000, they purchased 100 acres of land that eventually would become Red Toolhouse Farm & Homestead. Troy has over 22 years of business marketing experience with 16 of those years being self employed at his marketing firm. Outdoor life and a strong relationship with the land have always been his passion, however, he constantly seeks opportunities to marry his marketing knowledge with his love for the land and simple living. Troy and Kelly participate in small scale commercial farming activities including pastured chicken eggs, pastured broilers, and pastured pork. They also dabble in rural land and timber management on their properties and consult for others. Their efforts and experiences are displayed on their website, redtoolhouse.com and their Youtube channel, @redtoolhousehomestead

Half of our day will be in the classroom where we’ll discuss care and management of your herd. Second half of the day will be in the field with hands on demonstrations including equipment and gear review, fencing, training pens and more.

We will cap off the day with a farm to table meal. Snacks and refreshments included during the day.

Come and network with other pig farmers, share your experiences and take home actionable knowledge you can put to work on your farm today.
