Sam has been so close to standing by himself for a while now, just doesn’t quite get far enough forward and down to get up. When he does stand solo, he uses the back of the legs against the sofa/mat/car/etc to push himself up. Of course, that doesn’t work when it’s a light weight chair, has wheels, etc. I’m using his shower transfer bench as his seat. It is lightweight but one side suction cups to the floor for a halfway point on stability. (You can see on his first try, he pushes back and it’s almost enough to get him up but doesn’t quite get him there and he sits back down.) Another reason is because the transfer bench adjust height wise. We started with it as high as it goes. One, because it’s easier to stand from a high chair and, two, Sam’s feet are off the floor on the highest setting. It literally forces him to lean forward to get his feet down to stand. We’ve moved it down a couple notches. In this video, just his heels are off the floor. As he progresses, we’ll lower it more and more. Sam is doing great! These are the best, most controlled stands he’s ever done!!
