This time on Film N That we look at Distant Voices, Still Lives by Terence Davies. A two-part semi-autobiographical tale of the ups and downs of family life in the 1950s in Liverpool.
The main selling point of this film is how Terence Davies structured the film to be associative based on how he remembered his upbringing. The films are told in a non-linear fashion, flitting around through time like your memory does.
Distant Voices, Still lives is a realist masterpiece, encapsulating the emotions that come with family drama. Just try and get through all the singing!
