I had identified a drainage on topographical maps with all the markings of a pretty large waterfall. After a night with some decent rain I headed out into the deep hollow I had identified a few days before. The hollow was steep, and like most off trail hikes in Big South Fork, filled with rhododendron. That stuff is just rough to maneuver through. When I finally made my way to the stream bottom there wasn’t one big waterfall but a series of 8 to 10 foot high waterfalls with gorgeous cascades in between. Some of the waterfalls were tucked between large boulders in the stream bed. This truly is a gorgeous place! I will probably make a return trip sometime soon.
