In 1996 the prototype of the Uni 1 was to see the light of day in the automotive world. It had a particularly high utility value and a good ecological balance. This should be achieved by a hybrid drive consisting of a 66 kW 1.9 l diesel engine paired with a 30 kW DC motor. Both should be able to be used independently and together.
You could have driven purely electrically in the city and sparingly with a diesel engine on the highway.
The Uni 1 has an aluminum space cage body and is designed for seven passengers.
Thanks to the very spacious design, the Uni 1 was designed for families and was ideal as a taxi.
A van in two different lengths and a pick-up with a payload of 600 kg and 725 kg were planned.

In 1996 the requirement profile was as follows

Soon there will be more than 1 billion cars on earth - without new, effective concepts, emissions will drop by 100%
gain weight. Above all, the burden on metropolitan areas will increase rapidly. Especially where many people live together, the problems will soon become almost impossible to overcome: the increasing flood of cars, the rapidly increasing air pollution in large cities and densely populated regions are endangering people's living spaces. And in 10 years at the earliest, the environmentally friendly hydrogen drive will be available to us. But we will all have to rethink beforehand. Because we, as the largest consumers of natural resources, are already being asked to come up with effective concepts that conserve these reserves.

In fact, environmental considerations were very much in focus

Ford Mondeo were rebuilt

For basic investigations and for necessary software developments of the higher-level driving control, the electric motor control and the automated manual transmission, three additional test vehicles were set up, two of which are used in practical road tests. The third test vehicle is used for stationary tests on a special test bench.
