This is my piano rendition of a Lied written by Alexej Stachowitsch as played by Ingmar Burghardt here:
• Am Ural, fern von der Heimat
The man in the painting dressed in yellow mongolian robes is baron Roman von Ungern-Sternberg, noble heir of a baltendeutsch family descending from the Teuton Knights. As a russian citizen he joined the imperial army and later on became captain in a cossack regiment during 1.WK. After the fall of czarist Russia, he went on to liberate Mongolia from chinese troops. In Novonikolaevsk, the 15th of September 1921, he was shot by the Bolsheviks as an enemy of the revolution.
