Announced in fall 2023, the National Climate Resilience Framework focuses on community-driven resilience and adaptation solutions implemented through local experts and cross-sector partnerships.

This webinar presented perspectives from:

Alexa Whipple, Project Director, Methow Salmon Recovery Foundation
Shiloh Halsey, Director of Programs, Cascade Forest Conservancy
Ned Gardiner, Program Manager for the Climate Smart Communities Initiative, NOAA
(moderator) Liz Tully, Program Officer, Climate Resilience Fund

Speakers discussed promising practices and lessons learned from two relevant national programs:

The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Climate Adaptation Fund has a national portfolio of adaptation projects spanning diverse ecosystem types, climate change challenges, and place-based solutions designed and implemented by hundreds of partnerships between county, city, state, and federal agencies; tribes; nonprofits; community-based organizations; and local experts.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Smart Communities Initiative is a national effort designed to increase the capacity of communities across the country to proactively address climate-related impacts, with a central commitment to prioritizing the needs of communities that are on the front lines of the climate crisis.

Hosted by the Nicholas Institute, Climate Adaptation Fund, and Climate Resilience Fund as part of the National Climate Resilience Framework: Ideas to Action webinar series presented by the Resilience Roadmap project.

ABOUT THE SERIES:

The National Climate Resilience Framework: From Ideas to Action series, presented by the Resilience Roadmap project, will bring together experts from the government, nonprofit, and private sectors to discuss elements of the framework and how to implement it. Sessions will be hosted by a variety of partners, including the Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability at Duke University, the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment, and the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Climate Adaptation Fund.

ABOUT THE RESILIENCE ROADMAP

The Resilience Roadmap is a nonpartisan, independent project hosted by the Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability at Duke University. The project was initially intended to establish a vision for what resilience action should focus on at the federal level and ensure resilience was emphasized alongside climate mitigation efforts. Given the Biden-Harris administration’s level of dedication to climate resilience, the Resilience Roadmap has evolved to become a resource for tracking and reporting progress on resilience, a hub for discussions on key resilience topics, and an important partner offering technical assistance on resilience policy challenges.
