World Bank Group Chief Economist Indermit Gill, Ph.D, delivered a keynote speech for “Climate, Resilience, and Mobility: A Duke Climate Collaboration Symposium” on September 19, 2024, at Duke University. He argued that the world urgently needs to rethink its approach to climate resilience, particularly in the face of lagging economic growth in developing nations.

Next, an expert panel discussed strategies for building resilience to climate change and the likely effects of these efforts on human mobility. Panelists also discussed the potential for collaboration between NGOs, IGOs, government agencies, think tanks and academic researchers to enhance the knowledge frontier and improve policy response on these issues.

The panel, moderated by Sarah Bermeo (‪@DukeSanfordSchool‬) included Gill as well as:
Laurie Ashley, USAID Bureau for Resilience, Environment and Food Security, ‪@fwd‬
Nicole Franz, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, ‪@UNFAO‬
Christian Lara, Resident Coordinator Office, United Nations, ‪@unitednations‬
Marie McAuliffe, International Organization for Migration, ‪@iommigration‬
