Scandal-ridden GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd has been removed from the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2024, an annual trade gathering halal industry players which kicked off on Tuesday.

According to a MIHAS 2024 floor plan document, GISB,  currently under police investigation for alleged child exploitation at its welfare homes, was allocated an 81-square-metre space at the exhibition.

GISB's exhibit - at least eight times larger than a regular booth - was found vacant on Tuesday, despite being set up the day before.

It is unclear if the withdrawal was voluntary or enforced by Matrade. Matrade did not respond to a request for comment from the New Straits Times.

News on GISB broke last week when police rescued 402 children from GISB-linked homes and arrested 171 individuals to assist in investigations.

Founded in 2010, GISB operates in 20 countries, with assets totalling RM325 million and annual revenue of RM187 million from its various ventures.
