A late-night paddle turned tragic for two men in East Providence.

East Providence police, Rhode Island Environmental Police, and other agencies recovered the bodies of two kayakers Friday.

"We were notified this morning around 8:40 am from concerned family members that two adult males did not return from kayaking late last night," police told NBC 10 News in a statement.

East Providence Police Chief Christopher Francesconi said the first body was located a short distance from the shoreline of Omega Pond using a drone.

The body of a second kayaker was recovered from Omega Pond just after 1 p.m. Friday, hours after the body of another man was found.

Neither man survived.
