East Providence police said Friday that they recovered the body of one kayaker reported missing and that they were searching for a second man.

"We were notified this morning around 8:40 am from concerned family members that two adult males did not return from kayaking late last night," police told NBC 10 News in a statement.

Police said one body was located a short distance from the shoreline of Omega Pond using a drone.

"It is very murky water. The police officers and the firefighters on the boat are having difficulty with line of sight in the water. Luckily, our drone was able to see something that looked a little bit out of the ordinary from above, directed the fire department into that area, and we were able to locate the deceased person," Police Chief Christopher Francesconi said.

Francesconi said a Rhode Island State Police dive team would assist the East Providence Fire Department in the search for the second kayaker.
