On Sunday 24th March 2024, the Southern Downs Steam Railway ran a small train out to Hendon and return for the purpose of some crew training for a selection of train crew.

This was the final run for steam locomotive C17 974, which has been on loan to the railway since April 2023 while ongoing repair work is being made to their resident steam locomotive.
