Lady Fish, also known as "Kilangan" or "Noble Lady," is a popular fish variety in South India, and it's perfect for making this curry. We'll guide you through each step, from cleaning the fish to preparing the aromatic curry base.

Ingredients:

Lady Fish (Kilangan) - 500g
Coconut Oil - 2 tbsp
Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
Curry Leaves - a handful
Onions - 2, finely chopped
Tomatoes - 2, chopped
Green Chilies - 2, slit
Ginger-Garlic Paste - 2 tbsp
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
Red Chili Powder - 2 tsp
Coriander Powder - 1 tsp
Tamarind Pulp - 2 tbsp
Coconut Milk - 1/2 cup
Salt to taste

Instructions:

Clean and wash the Lady Fish thoroughly. You can ask your local fishmonger to do this for you.
In a deep pan, heat coconut oil and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add curry leaves.
Add finely chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
Stir in ginger-garlic paste and green chilies, and cook for a couple of minutes.
Add chopped tomatoes, cook until they soften, and the oil separates.
Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and coriander powder. Mix well.
Pour in the tamarind pulp and coconut milk. Stir and let it simmer for a few minutes.
Add the cleaned Lady Fish to the curry and let it cook for about 10-15 minutes until the fish is cooked through and the flavors meld together.
Season with salt to taste, and your spicy South Indian Lady Fish Curry is ready to serve!
This Lady Fish Curry is best enjoyed with steamed rice, appam, or idiyappam. It's a delightful and satisfying dish that showcases the rich and diverse flavors of South Indian cuisine.
