DIY Shower Tile – Mudroom & Bathroom: Episode 5 – Here I am installing the tile in the mudroom shower. This is only the second shower that I have ever tiled. I am tiling over cement board that has been painted with Mapei Aqua Defense waterproof membrane. I used a modified thin-set and applied it with a ¼” x 3/8” square notched trowel. I used 1/8” spacers. The tile I am using is a 12” x 6” ceramic tile. I did not back butter these tiles because they had a nice flat back. This tile did not have any trim or bullnose options, so I used a ¾” cove mold piece where the tile ended at the front of the shower. I ended up painting the cove mold the same color as the wall.
