Dwayne Johnson promised us Black Adam would be a movie "for the fans," and you can tell he and Warner Brothers took that seriously. Black Adam is jam-packed with action, fan-service, and Easter Eggs. It introduces us to the Justice Society, with standout characters like Dr. Fate (Pierce Brosnan) and Hawkman (Aldis Hodge) who may even outshine the titular character. And it did what was starting to seem impossible - it gave us back Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel himself, Superman. (Sorry, fellow Witcher fans.)

But, did the Rock and DCEU give us a good movie and story, too? Storytelling is not only the bedrock of this channel, but it's THE single most important piece of any movie. It's what makes a movie resonate. What makes a film truly memorable. And it's what turns regular people into lifelong fans of characters.

DC comics fans, like myself, probably were able to keep up with many of the characters and story beats in the movie - but how much of that is because we've got prior knowledge? I'd wager most of it.

There are systemic problems in the script and storytelling for Black Adam that drag the movie down. Aspects that have given us the sort of skewed Rotten Tomatoes scores where critics hate the film but fans flock to pump out a 90% approval rate. And while I love the characters and want to see more of the DCEU Black Adam sets a precedent for, I think these problems need to be addressed now for the DCEU to see continued success from this movie onward.

So, without further ado, let's talk about Black Adam. SHAZAM!
