Why Lee Kwang Soo never appeared on Running Man again after his last episode?

If you are a fan of Running Man, you must've been missing his antics on the show. He had been with us since the first episode when Running Man was aired in July 2010. Running Man cast members bid Lee Kwangsoo farewell in his final variety show appearance. After 11 years of laughter, Running Man aired “Lee Kwangsoo's Final Race” on Sunday, June 13 2021.

After 559 episodes and 3991 days, Lee Kwang Soo left due to health reasons. The previous year, Lee Kwang Soo was involved in an accident that obligated him to undergo surgeries for his ankle injury.

It was probably the saddest episode ever aired. To this day, some fans still reminisce about their memories with Lee Kwang Soo. Some even stated that they grew up watching Running Man and were hoping that he would return to the show.

Strangely, after his last episode, Lee Kwang Soo was never seen or came as a guest on Running Man ever again. Loyal fans started questioning the real reasons, did something happen behind the screen that fans weren't aware of? Fans discussed about the real reasons when he could just take a temporary leave instead of permanent departure for his ankle injury.

Last year, on one of Running Man's online discussion boards, some fans speculated that Kwang Soo had a problem with Jeon Somin prior his official departure. They stated it was weird that Jeon Somin unfollowed Lee Kwang Soo on Instagram but still followed other Running Man cast members. Fans talked about how Jeon Somin and Lee Kwang Soo were not on good terms. Later, some came to refute the claim, stating that it was impossible because Jeon Somin was a matchmaker between Lee Kwang Soo and Lee Sun Bin before the couple announced their dating news, citing that they are still close friends even if some things went south.

Another account claimed that, ankle injury was just an excuse to leave the show because Lee Kwang Soo wanted to focus on his acting career and change the public view about his fool character on Running Man. Even his family supported his decision make it even clear that Lee Kwang Soo real goal is as an actor instead of a comedian.

We know Lee Kwang Soo despite his betrayal nature in Running Man, it was just his character on the show but off screen he was a polite member. Kim Jong Kook and Song Jihyo also claimed that Lee Kwang Soo was the only member who would take care of them behind the screen after they finished their filming.

Last year, on December 16th 2022, Lee Kwang Soo appeared on Yoo Jae Suk's then new YouTube channel, DdeunDdeun, alongside Ji Suk Jin, reuniting three iconic Running Man members. It proved that he stayed in touch with his former castmates, showing that their relationship went beyond professional courtesy.

After his official departure from Running Man, Lee Kwang Soo was seen promoting his then, upcoming movie, Sinkhole on various TV shows. Fans also questioned his health condition when he started another Show with Yoo Jae Suk and Kwon Yuri, The Zone: Survival Mission, a program that requires physical challenge. Last year, Lee Kwang Soo starred in another TV series, The Killer's Shopping List together with Seolhyun.

Last month, Allkpop released an article about The undisputed #1 K-variety show that netizens are looking forward to this fall is Na Young Suk PD's new reality show, starring Lee Kwang Soo, Kim Woo Bin, EXO's D.O, and Kim Ki Bang.
A new synopsis of the program describes the general concept of reality as: "A reality show capturing a day-to-day log of four friends who suddenly become farmers as they labor away for a prosperous harvest." Fans are looking forward to this new show.
