The golden pheasant is called Chrysolophus pictus in Latin, while its name in English is Golden pheasant. Males are brightly colored, with the bright yellow color around the crest standing out, although the other colors are also easily noticeable. Females are mottled with several shades of brown, so the female golden pheasant has darker patterns on its back, while those patterns are lighter on its chest and stomach.

A golden pheasant's diet is mostly plant-based, but it will also eat some invertebrates such as grubs and spiders.

There are many variations of the golden pheasant when paired with other types of ornamental pheasants. Some of these variations are more popular, while some are created by chance.

Mutations of the golden pheasant are also diverse, but they arise when a male and a female golden pheasant mate. If a beautiful-looking bird is obtained, some breeders decided to force them to mate, resulting in a large number of offspring inheriting these traits that distinguish them from birds in the wild.

Often breeders call the birds in the wild red-gold pheasants, to emphasize that there is no possibility that it is a variation or mutation.

During the year, the female golden pheasant can lay up to 30 eggs, but most often she lays about 10 eggs in one cycle.

Male golden pheasants are usually with one female, although there are situations when one male makes a mini harem with about 5 females. During the breeding season, it is necessary to separate the golden pheasant roosters so that they do not fight, because they can be injured or even one of them can be killed.
