Tarikh Episode 658

In this episode Nikhil talks about Kuldhara, an abandoned village located about 18 kilometres west of Jaisalmer in the state of Rajasthan, India. This mysterious and desolate settlement has a haunting history that dates back to the 19th century. The village was once inhabited by the Paliwal Brahmins, a community known for their agricultural expertise.
Legend has it that in the early 19th century, the minister of the state, Salim Singh, developed a keen interest in the daughter of the village chief and demanded her hand in marriage. Fearing the consequences, the villagers, including those from nearby hamlets, decided to abandon Kuldhara overnight. The entire community disappeared, leaving behind an eerie atmosphere and dilapidated structures.
The reasons for the sudden abandonment are shrouded in mystery, with some attributing it to the oppressive rule of Salim Singh, while others believe that it was due to a combination of drought, lack of resources, and an uncertain future. Over the years, Kuldhara has gained a reputation as a haunted village, attracting tourists intrigued by its ghostly aura and deserted buildings. Today, the Archaeological Survey of India oversees the site, preserving its historical significance and ensuring that the village's enigmatic story continues to captivate visitors.
