How did Yuru Camp come to be, what does it say about the forests of Japan, and what does it leave unsaid? Yuru Camp is a wonderful and fortuitous success, and shares a popular view of the forests that serve as the show’s backdrop. While this portrayal is very enjoyable, the secret life of forests is one that is often hidden in misconception.

This video will show that forests are not purely natural and distinct from the human world, but have been integrally shaped through human intervention over centuries. Yuru Camp is not just inspired by the forests, it contributes to a process that will define what forests will exist in the future.
