Join us on a walk from Angmering to Poling, and back, in West Sussex. The senses are bombarded by the colour, sound and beauty of a wonderful array of wildlife, flowers and fields aglow with oilseed crops. Angmering is located approximately 5 miles west of Worthing with Poling a little under a further two miles to the west.

Due to its cinematic nature, this video is best watched on a large screen, such as a TV, to fully appreciate the visual detail and immersive aural experience we try to convey.

Our walk started in the Arundel Road area of Angmering, from where we made our way across the fields to Poling. It was yet another day of fickle weather, and more than a little muddy in places due to recent rain.

Whilst walking across the fields, it was uplifting to see and hear the skylarks as they climbed almost vertically all the while singing, and then rapidly diving back to the ground.

Poling is very small but still has a good number of historic buildings. The most prominent of these is the C11 pre-Norman church of St Nicholas. For those interested in the history and architecture, there is much information at https://sussexparishchurches.org/chur....

Close-by the church is The Manor House, which was previously known as Church Farm. Parts of this building date back to the C18 with later additions in the C19.

The other notable building is the Grade 1 listed St John's Priory, which can be found at the north end of Poling Street. At one time called Fairplace Farmhouse, a Preceptory or Commandery of the Knights Hospitallers of St John of Jerusalem was founded here in the C12. The current buildings consist of the C13 chapel converted into a dwelling in the C16, and altered and extended in the C19.

We retraced our steps down Poling Street and back past the church, stopping to watching the gambolling lambs, and then on to to the ponds. Aside from some birdlife, this area was quiet except for the cows! It seems it was too early for the damselflies that we had hoped to find.

From there, it was walking through a sea of yellow; not for those who suffer from hay fever! The oilseed crop was in full flower and buzzing with insect life - honey bees, bumblebees and numerous types of flies. At the edge of the field, we were fortunate enough to spy a Common Chiffchaff and, despite its reluctance to stay still for more than a second or two, we did successfully film him.

Exiting the fields of yellow, we entered the small wood and final field prior to reaching the recreation ground, and then made our way along the edges of the fields and back to our starting point.

All background and natural sounds were recorded during our time filming.

We hope you enjoyed watching as much as we enjoyed walking. If you did, please remember to click the thumbs up (like) button, and leave a comment.
